Mayfield's Mule 1969

Entrego a você um álbum muuito bom de folk-rock, com ótimas pegadas de guitarra e ótimo vocal que faz lembrar Creedence.

Lástima ser desconhecido. Daí eu divulgar. Mas como o descobri? Explico... (aos apressados, pulem direto pro link ao final da postagem... e não me encham o saco!)

Gosto muito de uma banda inglesa que fêz muito sucesso nos anos 70: Sweet. O vocal de Brian Connolly, a bateria de Mike Tucker, o baixo de Steve Priest e a guitarra de Andy Scott.

Navegando (ou "vagueando") pela Net encontrei links para os álbuns das bandas Elastic Band (que já postei por aqui) e do Mayfield's Mule; e informações de que o Andy teria participado da gravação de ambos. Bem, a ripagem do Elastic Band não estava muito boa, na minha opinião. Gostei mais da ripagem do Mayfield's Mule. Mas, não somente por ser uma banda de folk-rock (aliás, muito boa), mas também a linha de guitarras me pareceu meio diferente do trabalho apresentado pelo Andy Scott. Minha curiosidade por ambos álbuns era a presença de Andy.

Então comecei a pesquisar e encontrei essa informação aqui, que (numa "transgressão frontal" a um trabalho de tradução decente), estaria dizendo o seguinte:

Guitarrista, vocalista e compositor CHRIS MAYFIELD começou a tocar no início dos anos 60 na banda THE MORAL SET, uma banda local de Kent, e em meio à abundância de bandas, tocou com JOHN GUSTAFSON (Cass and the Casanovas, The Big Three, The Seniors, The Merseybeats, Johnny and John, The Quotations, Episode Six, Mick Farren, Quatermass, Daemon, Hard Stuff, The Spencer Davis Group nos anos 70, banda de Shawn Phillips, Roxy Music, Ian Gillan Band), GENE LATTER e IAN HUNTER (Mott the Hoople) dentre outros.

Em 1968, após algumas desventuras musicais, Chris juntou-se à AMEN CORNER (banda pop britânica de sucesso, formada em 1966, inicialmente especializada em blues e jazz) como motorista e roadie, mas sua namorada passou alguns de seus demos para o saxofonista da Amen, MIKE SMITH, que imediatamente os apresentou a vários selos, sendo aprovados pela EMI e em seguida assinando contrato com Chris. PETE SAUNDERS (teclado), STEVE BRADLEY (baixo) e o ex-Elastic Band, SEAN JENKINS (bateria) juntaram-se e nasceu o MAYFIELD's MULE. Tres singles foram gravados pela Parlophone em poucos meses e a banda começou também a trabalhar num album nos estúdios da Abbey Road. Mas algo deu errado e o LP, ao que parece, teve o lançamento adiado, ganhando, em vez disso, um inacreditável lançamento uruguaio pelo selo Emi-Odeon local, sem qualquer envolvimento e conhecimento da banda.

Mayfield's Mule continuou, ainda, por mais algum tempo, após recrutar os irmãos MIKE and ANDY SCOTT. Enquanto Sean Jenkins tocou alguns meses com HENRY COW e Andy Scott entrou para The SWEET, Chris Mayfield juntou forças com JOHN KONGOS para gravar alguns demos de seu material novo. Ele encontrou-se com um velho amigo de Kent, NOEL REDDING (Jimi Hendrix Experience and Fat Mattress) e formaram a breve banda BRAIN POLICE. NOEL lançou (sem Chris) ROAD e finalmente formou The Noel Redding Band.

Chris Mayfield gravou vários compactos e o álbum Mayfield's Mule, apresentando Sean Jenkins (da antiga banda de Verden Allen, The Astrals), assim como o pré-Sweet, Andy Scott.

Induzido a erro, coloquei esse texto na postagem do The Elastic Band: "Depois desse álbum, Andy (Scott, do Sweet) gravaria, em 1970, na banda Mayfield's Mule, com pegada bem mais hard. E essa história é muuuito estranha... falaremos sobre isso". Suspeitava da história, mas não tinha muita ceerteza. Muita informação desencontrada nos sites.

Daí eu visitei o site do Mayfield e mandei um ridículo e-mail proóme, com o seguinte teor:

Mr Mayfield, my english is very very bad. Sorry. Congratulations for your job. Great music!! Can You tell me about Andy Scott's job on your band Mayfields' Mule, specially in the album? The album was released in Uruguay really? The Web is not a web's fake more time? Thanks by a response.

hi there........................thanx for your e-mail.................i can't figure your name in the message..so hi will have to do...............yup.................the album was released in Uruguay in 1970 i guess.................don't ask me why ..i don't have any idea.......................Andy Scott is not on the album at all.....we had finished recording by the time he joined the band. he joined right at the end of the Mule time.
and was on a few live gigs is all...................................do you have the new cd release ????

Portanto, bem esclarecido que o Andy Scott definitivamente NÃO PARTICIPOU da gravação do álbum, apresento, agora a obra, que tive o prazer de ouvir. Passo a transcrever as informações obtidas no blog http://coco-vinyl.blogspot.com. Interessante ressaltar que o álbum foi LANÇADO MESMO pelo sêlo uruguaio, em 1970. Somente depois veio o lançamento em inglês.
